What makes a gaming computer?
Some stores take a normal computer and add a medium graphics card and call that a gamer.
I call that a computer that can play games. (Usually not that well). What you really need is a Custom Built Gaming Computer.
A proper Gaming computer needs to be built in a case that has room for large graphics cards. It must have a Power supply that can handle the power requirement of at least one decent graphics card.
A good motherboard that can take 2 graphics cards is important, if you want the option to use SLI or Crossfire.
It should have at least an I5 or equivalent CPU. If you are on a real tight budget, you can get away with an I3, but you would need to have a really good Graphics card.
You really need a minimum of 8 GB RAM, and it helps to have a decent hard drive, 1TB at least. A solid state drive is nice. With prices falling they are now a must for all computers they make a huge difference to the performance.
The graphics card is almost the most important part, and you should spend as much as you can on this item. Running 2 or more cards is nice, but unless you have deep pockets, one single good card is the way to go.
A good screen is a must, as large as you can afford, and check out the refresh rate if you want to avoid motion blur.
If you want your keyboard to take the pounding from years of gaming, then a mechanical keyboard is a must. These have mechanical switches rated in millions of key presses. Another option is to buy a couple of cheapies, and throw them away when they die. The same with your mouse, mechanical buttons will last a lot longer, Oh, and no wireless, the LAG will mean you’re dead before you know it.
Speakers or headphones are a must. But if you want to catch that guy creeping up behind you, you really need surround.
So yes there is a lot to think about when putting together a Gaming Computer. Beware anyone who is selling one for $700 or $800, they are cutting corners somewhere.
